Merger Update

In the past week or so both Wahroonga FC and Bannockburn Rovers FC have held their respective Special General Meetings (SGMs) for the purpose of voting on the proposed merger of the clubs.  The SGMs were a critical part of the merger process, as the meetings gave all members the right to vote yes or no for the merger. I am happy to share with you that both clubs voted “yes” to the merger by a large majority, so the merger will now take place and will be effective for the start of next season (which will be here in a flash).
So now the real work begins.

Some key decisions have already been made by the representatives of both clubs:
  • Club name – Turramurra United Football Club
  • Logo - has been decided – to be shared with you soon.
  • Uniform supplier - has been decided – Paladin Sports Wear
  • Club colours have been decided – blue, yellow, red, white (capturing the colours of both clubs)

Important next steps:
  • We need to fill positions on the new Committee
  • A new playing uniform must be designed & made.
  • Grounds for training & game days to be allocated.
  • Emails and Facebook will keep you all informed of progress.

As the new season starts we hope to organise a social function for all members to celebrate the “coming together” of the two great clubs.

Mark Bendall
President, Wahroonga FC
(and along with Geoff Harvey, Co-President – Turramurra United FC)

Thank You to Bill Mackay

Bill Mackay was a long serving President of Wahroonga Soccer Club (now Wahroonga FC), a coach of many teams including the famous U9 team from 1960, served in many positions on the committee and is a Life Member of WFC and NSFA.  Bill came along to Presentation Day and presented trophies to our younger players, and also regaled us with stories of his time with Wahroonga FC.

On 23 May 2017, Bill was made a Chevalier in the Order of the Legion of Honour on behalf of the President of the Republic of France.  This is an outstanding achievement of a very prestigious award.  Bill received his medal on 14 June, and a formal presentation will take place later this year.
Bill served in the 5th Scottish Parachute Regiment during WW2.  He fought in Italy up to June 1944, and then jumped into France with the Americans one week after D-Day.  France has recognised his fighting for over a month, which contributed to the liberation of their country

Proposed Merger

Wahroonga Tigers and Bannockburn Rovers are planning to merge clubs to form Turramurra United FC.  The reasons why both committees are supporting the proposal to unite the two clubs to form Turramurra United are:

We care about our clubs’ cultures and are committed to maintain this with a hard-working and supportive committee and group of volunteers.

We want to take advantage of the growth of female football to provide more opportunities for girls and women to play football with our club so that the united club can become a leader in girls and women’s football in the local area.

The united club will be able to provide better coaching and an improved standard of football for the boys and girls who play for our club.

The united club will be able to field football teams at all age groups and will be better placed to serve our high school age teams and to enable the opportunity to progress from those age groups to our men’s and women’s teams.

After uniting, we will be better placed to provide our players with resources, better equipment and some of the best training and playing facilities in the local area.

The uniting of the clubs will see us better able to develop football in our local area with the support of all our members and of a progressive local football association.

A great season by our G14B team

The Wahroonga G14 team had a very successful season on and off the field in 2017. They played 15 matches, winning 12 and drawing 3 of them. We remained undefeated the whole season which really highlights how consistently well the girls played every week. It was fantastic to see a lot of girls scoring goals, especially from playing different positions. Highlights would have to include our incredible defence, only conceding 6 goals all season, and seeing everyone in the team get along so well on and off the field. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better team to coach, this season has definitely been a huge success.
